Finding Your Why

Hi, are you blessed today? I want to ask you a simple little question. Why are you watching this video? In fact, why are you even on our mailing list or part of us? The word why is something that we don’t like to use much. We like to make excuses why we do things.
But if you don’t have a strong why in life, then you really have nothing that you’re living for and you have nothing that you’re aiming for. Why do you get out of bed in the morning? Why do you face each day? What is your main life purpose? Now I just gave you a message I preached a long time ago on identifying God’s purpose for your life. And I want to remain on this theme now to help you to understand your why.
Now, if you don’t know yet what your why is, that’s part of why we’re here. We’re here to help you to identify your why. And I suppose for every believer, the most important why of all is the call of God on your life.
God has a very special purpose for you and for you alone. A lot of the time we see what He does with others and how He uses them and we perhaps even envy them. But God has a special purpose just for you.
And until you find that purpose, your life has no real direction. So it’s very important right now that you know what your why is. Why are you serving the Lord? Why are you striving to improve your spiritual life and your knowledge of the Word? Why are you trying to learn better how to carry out a specific ministry? Until you can answer that question clearly, everything that you do is pointless.
What are you aiming for? Now, somebody says, if you aim at nothing, you’re sure to miss it. And a lot of us, we just get up every morning, we stumble through the day until we come to the end of the day. And then we say, sure, I made it through another day.
Well, I hope your why is a little bit more positive than that. Because that’s not living, is it? It’s not worth living if you’re just barely surviving each day. Perhaps you live for food and you’re living for the opportunity to cook or buy a nice meal, go out and eat somewhere and satisfy the desires of the body.
There are other desires of the body also that can be satisfied and these may also play a big role in your life. And the Lord wants us to enjoy all of these things. But there needs to be what I like to call a core desire.
We have many desires in life. We have many things that we want and desire. But there is that thing, one or two things that sit at the top of the list, where under the old fairy tale, if the fairy god mother were to offer you three wishes, what are the three things that you would wish for? First, to make it a bit more spiritual, if the Lord were to say to you, give me three things that you desire in prayer and I will answer all of them for you.
What would be top of your list? What would be your greatest desire of all in this life? If you can find that, then you’re only just beginning to understand the importance of having a why. Now, I’d like you to think about it. I’d like you to examine your heart and examine your motives and your life and your experiences until now.
And I’d like you to send me a few of your ideas of what you think is a good why and what it is that gets you up in the morning, what it is that gets you to go out and do your work or your ministry, whatever it is that you have available to you. What is your strongest why? And if you’re finding it difficult to fully identify your why, then I believe that we can help you and this is what we’re going to be there for. Now, I’m going to be ministering to you this way in short videos from now into the future and I’m going to try and touch on many different areas in our lives and many possibilities and I hope that I’ll be able to minister to some of them.
If your why is to do the work of the ministry better, we have many training courses that we can offer you which will equip you and give you the knowledge that you need to minister more effectively. But all of this must with your why. Why do you want to do that? If your why is not strong enough, then you may even start these things and not finish them.
And in fact, if you examine your life, you’ll find that a lot of the time there are things that you started off because you thought that those were the things worth living for. But after a while you got bogged down and you lost interest and it didn’t seem to drive you the same way. Let us know what some of these are and see if we can help you.
Maybe you’ve been through a process that we call the birth, death and resurrection of a vision. And this happens very often when we have a brand new exciting goal or vision or dream that we aim for. We go out with great gusto, but everything goes wrong and we crash land and then we give up.
In actual fact, sometimes God allows us or even causes us to fail in the activity, not because he doesn’t want us to succeed, but because he has something greater and better for us. And if God brings you to such an experience of death, you can be assured that there’s a new experience lying just ahead called the resurrection. But it must follow the same pattern as Jesus.
He died and he was buried and remained in the grave for three days. And then he arose from the dead. So if at the moment you’re in a death process, everything is collapsed around you and gone wrong.
All your great exciting goals and visions have just folded in and nothing’s working anymore. It could be God’s bringing you through a death process because he wants to move you to a new level. The important thing right now is that you don’t try to resurrect yourself and you don’t try to resurrect the vision that’s died.
Don’t try and go back and restart what has died. God has something better for you. And if you commit yourself fully to him and wait on him, pretty soon around the corner, you’ll see suddenly a big change in your circumstances and the resurrection of the vision will begin and God will put you on a new path, a more brightly lit path, a wider road, an easier road than the one you were trying to follow before.
And then finally, you’ll come to the place where you can say, okay, now I know what my why is and now I’m going all out for the goal to reach it. I’d like to help you get there. I’d like to help you pick up the pieces and get going again.
That’s what we’re here for. So please feel free to contact me. You can share with me.
You can send us an email. You can post on one of our groups to contact me and I’ll be happy to minister with you personally and help you try to identify what God’s calling is on your life because God has a special calling for you. And when you find out what that calling is, you no longer need to struggle in the dark or wonder whether you’re doing the right thing or not.
You’ll know you are doing exactly what he has called you to do and you know that he’s going to back you all the way and he’s going to make it succeed.
